THIS was a top of the table clash with only a point separating the two teams.

It was a game of end to end play. Each team had early shots on goal but it was the visitors who got on the score sheet first.

The home side put together some flowing play down the right between McClumpha and Lamb. Lamb ran the ball fast down the pitch and put in some great crosses. Gaspar upfront connected with the ball but could not turn it into the goal. This was an ongoing theme of the game. The home side levelled the score through a penalty corner. Gaspar received the ball at the top of the penalty area, slipped it to Armstrong who fired the ball into the goal.

The opposition worked the ball quickly and confidently round the pitch and stretched the home sides defence. They got their second goal from poor defending. The ball was shot across the area, a player was left unmarked at the far post and put the ball in from close range.

The second half was again end to end play. Killingbeck and Gawman linked well on the left for Tavistock and with Armstrong in support got the ball into the opposition's D. The home side were awarded penalty corners but none were fruitful. The away side scored again following a penalty corner.

After mounting pressure the home side pulled back another goal. A through ball to McClumpha allowed her to pass on to Lamb who struck the ball firmly into the back of the net. Not long after McClumpha had another opportunity to score from close range but sent the ball agonisingly wide.

The opposition kept attacking and although the defence of Evans, Olive, Cuckston and Boulle worked hard, there always seemed to be a loose player and the opposition scored again.

The home side did have more opportunities to score but it was just not going to happen.
