MINI-motos have been banned from two locations in Princetown, following a warning from police. The Princetown sports field and football pitch are ?out of bounds? to the vehicles, which are sometimes given away free with mobile phones. Mini-motos are illegal to drive on the roads and should be used on private land with the owner?s permission. Police Community Support Officer for Princetown and the surrounding areas Mark Canvin said because of their small size, mini-motos were difficult to control safely. He said: ?Like any motor vehicle, they also need driving licence, tax, insurance and MoT. ?For this reason, among others, they should not normally be ridden in a public place, especially not on a road or pavement. This includes getting from home to the place of use. ?The Princetown sports field and football pitch are therefore out of bounds for mini-motos, and there are no hard surfaced areas in Princetown where permission has been given for their use.? PCSO Canvin added where mini-motos are not used legally, the police can confiscate them. They are usually sent to the ?crusher? to prevent them from posing a danger in the future. To prevent this, the police are recommending parents strictly to control and supervise their children?s use of mini-motos, to ensure they are used in a safe place and minimise the chances of accidents.
