IN reply to T Kerswill?s letter in last week?s Times I find it sad that he would deny the opportunity for charitable events and family celebrations being heralded by asking for notices to be banned from Drake?s Statue railings. As an organising member of the Gulworthy Country Festival I was so grateful that our tasteful notice was allowed to be displayed for a few days, helping to make the event a success. Organisers spend many hours on arranging their events trying to raise money for their community or activity and letting the public be aware of these events is crucial. Truly. some of the personal notices are not well made but they convey happy messages giving pleasure to family and friends. I feel sure that if Sir Francis were alive today he would welcome such community activity and family celebration; indeed, he would probably cut a sail down to size to let everyone know of his victory for England. So thank you, Tavistock Council, but please don?t anesthetise the town we are so proud of as T Kerswill would like you to do. Alan Fox Anna Maria Cottage Devon Consols, Tavistock
