TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club?s men?s home game against Peverell Park in the County Trophy Competition turned into a one-sided affair when all five of the Tavistock rinks found their marks to complete a comprehensive 109-42 overall victory.
Skip Eric Stevens and his squad of Norman Paramor, Clive Jago and Geoff Cork notched up a 37-14 victory, thanks to some excellent back end.
Skip Mike Allen and his team of Pat Sykes, Phil Jury and Tony Coombs won 26-9, while skip Malcolm Bloomer led his squad of Der Saunders, Wallace Northey and Brian Preece to a 21-9 victory and Roy Northam skipped his team of Colin Tremaine, David Perry and Lionel Sims to their 25-10 success.
Earlier in the week the men travelled to Plymouth Devonport Park to face Tamar in a County Trophy match which ended in a one-shot overall victory, 77-76, for Tamar who won three of the four rinks played.
Tavistock?s only winning rink was skipped by Mike Allen, who with his team of Pat Sykes, Phil Jury and Tony Coombs notched up a remarkable 29-7 win, having won 15 of the 21 ends.
Unfortunately, Mike?s winning margin was not enough, as Tavistock?s other three rinks all managed to lose, with skips Eric Stevens going down 12-24, Malcolm Bloomer 15-20 and Roy Northam 20-26.
Wednesday saw the visit of a mixed team from Plympton for a match which ended in a 95-82 victory for Tavistock, thanks to their winning four of the five rinks played.
Skip Norman Paramor and his team of Brian Ellicott, Patricia Hoar and Ray Moore won by just one shot (16-15) in a game which was an even battle from the outset.
Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his squad of Wendy Bloomer, Henry Lovell and Wallace Northey emerged 18-16 winners and skip Ron Cooper and his team of Hazel Lovell, Mike Vine and David Perry notched up a 25-14 victory.
Skip Mike Allen and his team of Anne Brown, Val Southern and Laurie Smith won 25-16, but Tavistock?s fifth rink went down 11-21.
The ladies? section three-rink home match against Bere Alston Ladies on Thursday saw Tavistock lose one rink and win the other two.
Skip Yvonne Meneer and her team won 31-10, while skip Gill Saunders led her team to a 21-17 victory. Skip Marion Allen and her team lost by one shot, going down 17-18, resulting in Tavistock ladies winning 69-45 overall.
The ladies? home match against North Tawton ended in a 38-31 win for Tavistock, thanks to skip Marion Allen?s rink winning 22-15 and skip Hazel Lovell and her squad taking part in a hard-fought game which ended with a 16-16 scoreline.
Saturday saw the visit of a mixed team from Barnstaple for what turned out to be a game of sharply contrasting fortunes, which ended with Tavistock losing 110-113, despite winning two and drawing one of the six rinks played.
Skip Marion Allen and her team of Tony Coombs, Ray Meneer and Dorice Hicks won 35-12 after the opposition failed to score on 16 of the 21 ends played.
A similar fate befell Tavistock skip Rob Bowhay, whose team scored eight in the first nine ends, then failed to score again, finally going down 8-22.
Skip Colin Tremaine and his squad of Brian Preece, Albert Townsend and Frank Welch drew 19-19, and skip Roy Northam led his team of Derek Bradford, Ernie Piper and Barry Chappell to a 21-15 victory, but skips Tom Sharp (9-22) and Der Saunders (18-23) both lost.
