TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake bowling Club?s first mixed match of the week was a six-rink away game at Looe. Each team won three rinks, with Tavistock taking the spoils with a 122-103 winning scoreline. Skip Norman Paramor and his squad (Der Saunders, Gerald Worth and Shirley Blackburn) won 27-6 and skip Sue Silcox and team (Viv Powell-Thomas, Stuart Doidge and Geoff Cork), won 22-16. Skip Ron Cooper steered his team (Anne Browne, Albert Townsend and Catriona Meek) to a 22-18 victory, thanks to them winning 13 shots over the last five ends. Skips Betty Browse (18-22), Malcolm Bloomer (17-24) and John Smith (16-17) all lost. Monday saw Tavistock men?s team at Devonport Park in Plymouth for a match against Tamar. Both teams won two rinks but Tamar won the match 92-74. Tavistock skip, Clive Jago and crew (Der Saunders, Barry Chappell and Ernie Piper) won 24-21 and skip John Smith?s team (Bill Ashe, Brian Davies and Brian Preece) won 22-17, after recovering from a spell in the middle of their game when they lost seven consecutive ends. Skips Norman Paramor (12-36) and Malcolm Bloomer (16-18) both led losing rinks. Wednesday?s visitors for a men?s County Trophy match were from Plymouth Unity Park. It ended in an 85-67 win for Tavistock with skip Norman Paramor and crew (Brian Lamb, Dereck Bradford and Vic Stacey) winning 17-11 and skip Clive Jago and team (Ernie Piper, Barry Chappell and Der Saunders) notching up a 35-10 victory. Skip John Smith and team (Brian Davis, Bill Ashe and Brian Preece) achieved a creditable 19-19 draw. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and team (David Perry, George Blackburn and Clifford Hicks) lost 14-27, when coming up against strong opposition. The ladies? team travelled to Plymstock for a league match against Plymstock Bees. It ended in a 43-37 win for Tavistock, after skip Yvonne Meneer and team (Sue Silcox, Shirley Blackburn and Betty Browse) won 27-12; and skip Henny Bawden and crew (Marlene Paramor, Catriona Meek and Jill Lacayo) lost 16-25. The friendly rink played alongside the league rinks saw the Tavistock ladies lose 26-6. Saturday saw a team from Paignton-Torbay visit Tavistock seeking revenge for Tavistock?s mixed teams? 118-108 victory when they visited Torbay in June. Paignton travelled back to Torbay, having lost the match 93-128 with Tavistock winning four of the six rinks played. Skip Hazel Lovell led her team to a 23-13 win. Skip Jill Lacayo and her squad won 28-17, and skip George Blackburn led his squad to a 26-10 victory, while skip John Smith and his crew won 20-10.
