A WEST Devon teenager is keeping her fingers crossed she has what it takes to become the new Leona Lewis, after learning she has been chosen to audition for the hugely popular TV programme, 'X Factor', writes Lindsay Bright. But for Sarah-Elizabeth Williams' dream of becoming a famous singer to become a reality she has to wow four judges —Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne, Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell. Simon Cowell could be described as Britain's most controversial judge, but Sarah-Elizabeth, a 16- year-old from Gulworthy, said she is not afraid of his remarks. 'I have my mother to impress, he doesn't scare me,' joked the former Kelly College student. 'I am really looking forward to it, and then a couple of weeks later I am in the regional final of the FX Factor in Torquay.' Sarah-Elizabeth (pictured above) performed in front of judges from Plymouth Sound recently to beat off strong competition and win a place in the regional final of the FX Factor talent competition run by Start Promotions. This will be held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay on May 31. The prize is a Sky TV interview and the recording of a CD. Sarah-Elizabeth said singing was her passion even from an early age, and loves singing in front of a large crowd. She has sung since an early age locally, including at garden fetes and at Gulworthy parish events, and sang in the college choir, but is only now looking for entry into the commercial world. Her repertoire covers a vast range from songs performed by Katherine Jenkins to Christine Aguilera and Alicia Keys. The first audition for the X Factor will be on May 11. If she gets through to the next round she will be performing to Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne, Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Sarah-Elizabeth expressed thanks to David from Honey's Wish and to Sue from The Works for their continued support. She also added she would love to hear from anyone who could provide her with some classical training before the big day. Her contact number is 07857 286106.
