HATHERLEIGH butcher, S A Edwards Farm Fresh, has the best lamb barbecue product in the UK — and that's official!
Adrian Edwards' lamb roulades with minted lamb and onion beat a variety of creations from butchers nationwide to win £250 and the coveted title of National Lamb Barbecue Product Champion.
Mr Edwards said they entered a lot of competitions as it was the only way to move forward.
'It is important to raise the profile of good quality meat and butchery. Independent butchers can provide a personal touch that supermarkets can't — you can walk in and ask for meat to be prepared to your liking, but in the supermarket you have to take what they have on display already,' he said.
Phil Davies, the independent sector manager of the Meat and Livestock Commission who organised the competition for innovative creations using beef, lamb and pork, said it was a great success.
'The barbecue season is very important for butchers as customers become more adventurous and want to move away from the usual fare of sausages and burgers. The entrants showed great imagination and the standard was very high,' Mr Davies said.
