TAVISTOCK junior triathlete Pete Jarman, 14, took part in the Perranporth Youth Challenge Aquathon last weekend.
There was a terrific turnout for the event with 138 juniors taking part. The Aquathon was an 'extreme' event and had no transition into running footwear, the competitors ran barefoot even on the stony ground.
The event took place despite the most challenging weather conditions on the day. Extreme winds and thundering surf at Perranporth meant that for safety reasons the swim turned into a wade.
The wade through the churning seas was strength sapping for the juniors. This was followed by a gruelling beach run and finished with a run-up the stony path to the finish line.
Pete took silver in his age group in a highly competitive and challenging race. Pete is a member of Plymouth Triathlon Club.
