AT Okehampton Golf Club the sun shone on a beautiful autumnal day and there were no delays when the ladies played their November qualifying medal. Chris Stevens had a wonderful day and achieved her 2006 ambition of attaining a silver handicap by carding a gross 88 net 66. Her handicap is now 20 and she is in the silver division! Second in the bronze division was Jane Warren gross 93 net 71, and third was Kath Mansell gross 96 net 75. The silver division was won by Cherry James with gross 86 net 68; second Marcia Holwill, gross 80 net 71 and third was Pam Jarman gross 94 net 76. Saturday's club competition was delayed by the frost and a reduced field played a fourball better ball Stableford. Again the conditions were good and with only one temporary green the scoring was well up to its best. Winning division one were the Carey brothers, Lee and Gary with 47pts, second were Barry Coaker and Kevin Cornwall on 46 on the back nine from Horace Floyd and Den Jenkins. Colin Cornwall and Chris Hurley were fourth with 45. Division two was won by Keith Harkness and Andy Stevens with 45 pts on the back three from Bill Tanner and Bob McDowell; third with 44 were Alan Dunn and Alan Jeffery and fourth were Andy Shapland and Ron Iles with 43 . Last week saw an error in the printing of this report, in the mixed greensomes Kath Mansell and Malcolm Hooper won with 39 pts, on countback, from Mary and David Keir in second place while in third place was Marcia and Alan Jones with 35. In the 'twos' sweep their was only one two which was made on the seventh by Dawn and Bill Phillott.
