A SPECIAL day of events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the conversion of Buckland Monachorum Baptist Chapel to a residential hostel is to be held next Saturday, October 7. The chapel was built in 1855 and continued to provide a Baptist presence until 1978 when weekly services ceased. Finances were raised to convert the chapel and it was officially opened as the self-catering holiday and conference centre in 1981. The centre is managed by the South West Baptist Association Committee. It continues to provide self-catering accommodation especially for young people. It is also well used by the fellowship of St Andrew?s Church and other village groups. The day runs from 2pm until 4pm and will be followed by presentations and a light tea. From 6 to 7pm there will be a celebration service at St Andrew?s Church.
