NEW signs and hash markings will soon be seen on Calstock Slipway in an effort to stop the ongoing problem of 'inconsiderate' parking.

At a recent meeting of Calstock Parish Council, Cllr Lee Manning raised the problem of people parking on and obstructing the slipway in Calstock.

He said: 'Lots of people keep parking in the middle of the slipway and causing chaos. I've spoken to the owner of the Tamar Inn and he would be happy to have a sign put on his wall opposite the slipway to tell people not to park there and then I suggest we have one on the slipway as well.'

Cllr Dick Hoile was in agreement. He said: 'I propose we have three signs — one either side of the slipway and one on the Tamar Inn which would cost around £240. I also propose we hash the slipway to make it stand out more.

'We have tried signs in the past but they have always failed but hashing and signs may work. At the end of the day we may have to end up putting up bollards but at the moment we should see how the hashing goes.

Hopefully it will alleviate the serious problem of people not being able to use the slipway because of inconsiderate parking.'

Cllr Hoile also suggested that while hashing was being done on the slipway, they could extend the hashing on the bus bay as there had not been enough room for larger buses. He suggested the total cost of hashing and signs would cost around £400.

The council voted unanimously to fund the work.
