TWO youngsters from Stoke Climsland have been rewarded for their fundraising efforts when they collected money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

President of the Royal British Legion Callington and District John Phillips gave recognition to siblings Caleb Bowhay, 9, and Ebony Bowhay, 7, after they sold a sheet of stickers for the poppy appeal recently, raising £10.

Mr Phillips said: ‘At Tesco Callington we had a pre-launch of a new all Cornish badge for this year’s appeal, designed by me.

‘Children were coming in from school with their mums. I gave these two children a full sheet of poppy stickers, which we always have for children.

‘The next thing in the evening, I had a call from a friend Ken Radcliffe, who recently retired from the Royal Navy, to say the children had been round with him and sold the stickers and had raised £10 for the Poppy Appeal.

‘They asked me to go across as they wanted to give the monies to the “old soldier”.

‘I think this was a wonderful gesture from the children.’

In return for their forward-thinking, Mr Phillips presented them with a Queen’s Jubilee Crown each from his own collection in appreciation for their fundraising.
