ARTISTIC youngsters in West Devon will have the opportunity to express their creativity using new media technology, thanks to a new project being run by the rural arts agency Villages In Action.
VIA has been awarded £29,000 from South West Arts' regional arts lottery programme and will launch the 'Digital Express' project at Air Fusion, a free festival for young people in Courtnay Park, Newton Abbot, this Saturday, July 21.
Jackie Parsons, the Digital Express project co-ordinator, said: 'This showcase event will enable hundreds of young people to meet some of the artists Villages In Action will be commissioning.'
In the project, 14 to 25-year-olds from West Devon and other areas will learn to use new media technology. There will be a 12-month programme of workshops, beginning this summer for young people to experience cutting edge technology and equipment to create new artwork.
The workshops will include: digital photography; video recording and editing; computer graphics and animation; sound recording, sampling, mixing and CD production. At the end of the workshop period the young artists will be encouraged to exhibit their artwork in their own communities.
The project will culminate in a Digital Express exhibition.
