WEST Devon Borough Council is taking the lead in a multi-agency project to investigate how past mining activity has affected Horrabridge.
The council will be taking an information road show out to villagers tomorrow (Friday) to explain the project and seek help in finding out more local information on past mining in the village.
Horrabridge has, over the last few years, had incidents associated with mining activities carried out in the area during the 18th and 19th century.
In the last 18 months there has been a collapse of old shafts in Pencreber Road and the discovery of an engine shaft in the Copperfields estate.
In June last year Horrabridge Parish Council and the Copperfield Residents? Association asked the borough for help.
Now the council is taking the lead to carry out further investigations in the village and is to apply to English Partnerships for a grant of £190,000 to finance further investigations.
Cllr Paul Ridgers, chairman of the council?s environment and health committee, said: ?I am pleased that the borough council has taken this initiative with the support we are receiving from our partners.
?We hope that the information road show will help to allay some of the concerns of the people of Horrabridge.?
The council is working in partnership with Dartmoor National Park Authority, Annington Homes Ltd, Horrabridge Parish Council, Copperfields Residents? Association, West Devon Homes and the Environment Agency.
The council has also held discussions with other interested organisations, including Devon County Council, Transco, South West Water and Western Power.
The road show is being held at Horrabridge Parish Hall from 2pm to 8pm. Further information about the road show can be obtained from Wendy Cooper at the borough council offices on 01822 813715.
