THE 97th Okehampton Show is due to take place at Stoney Park showfield on August 8 — and organisers are reminding equestrian enthusiasts that the closing date for entries is coming up soon.

The show has become an important venue in the horse world and this year there will be more than 60 classes to enter.

But the closing date for entries is Thursday July 11 so horse owners need to be aware there are just seven days left to return their forms.

This year's event will be one of the biggest one-day shows in the West Country and although restrictions following last year's foot and mouth crisis mean no livestock, there will still be a packed programme of events to cater for everyone.

The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery headlines the entertainment; there will be displays by gun dogs, falcons, shire horses and foxhounds, in addition to craft tents, produce tents, junior quad bikes and even helicopter trips.
