BUCKLAND Horse Show has been cancelled due to the recent foot and mouth outbreak. Organisers said they took the decision out of concerns that the venue field was also used for grazing stock and they felt that, under the circumstances, it would be unfair to expect the landowner to accept vehicles on to his land. One option would have been to disinfect every vehicle, but it was felt this would have caused major traffic congestion on the approaching road. Buckland Abbey, only 200 yards away, also had an event planned for that weekend, which meant there would be more traffic than usual on the road. This is the second time this year the event has been cancelled. The first was in May due to bad weather. The next event will be on May 11, 2008.
