AN exhibition by internationally renowned artist Barrie Cook (above) is on display at the Wharf Gallery, Tavistock until Friday, February 27.
Born in Birmingham in 1929, he became a lecturer in fine arts and, in 1977, was appointed GREG YNOG Fellow at the University of Wales.
Since 1983 Cook has practiced as a full time artist, first from his studio in Wales, and more recently from his large converted chapel at Mullion, Cornwall.
He works in a mixture of acrylic, ink and wax. The majority of the paintings in this exhibition have been created using a spray gun, gently blowing layer upon layer of acrylic so that the surface achieves a shimmering intensity. His technique enables him to express the spiritual joy he experiences from the light and landscape of the Cornish peninsula.
