MARGARET Allin of the Victorian Tearooms in Okehampton has won back her title of the area's 'Pheasant Plucking Champion'.

The caterer was pipped at the post last year after a four-year reign at the top, but her quick hands were back on form at the Devonshire Inn in Sticklepath at the weekend, when she took 12 minutes 54 seconds to pluck a bird.

The annual spectacle went down well with the Inn's customers who were piling in the door to cheer on the contestants.

'It was a bit of fun, as always, but I am still vacuuming out the feathers,' said landlord John Verner-Jeffreys.

'We have been running it for a good many years now and Margaret has proved again she is certainly the one to beat.'

The winner's prize was a bottle of the Devonshire's finest whisky!
