RAISING funds for the charity BLISS (who help sick and premature babies) and the forthcoming Barbados sports trip, 11 Shebbear College pupils, six parents and three staff undertook cycling either 40 or 24 miles along the Tarka Trail.
Although it was raining when they arrived at Torrington, the sun soon came out and they spent the whole day cycling in sunshine. The 40 mile route was definitely the most challenging distance for many of the pupils especially as they were facing a strong headwind for most of the return journey. Unfortunately a few mechanical breakdowns led to a some riders finishing their routes early or in sports teacher Mr Bryan’s case being given a lift for part of the way!
All riders enjoyed a well-deserved stop at Fremington Quay before heading back to Torrington. The school expressed a huge well done to all riders, they said these distances are a real challenge and they accomplished them superbly!
Pupil participants were Bridget Astley-Taylor, Archie Boycott, Rivaldo Clarke, Joe Faulkner, Tiggs MacDougall, Hamish MacDougall, Luke Maxa, Tom Nethercott, Dan Shaw, Lewis Whitten and Cameron Young.
