STUDENTS at Shebbear College have put on a festive pantomime written especially for them by one of their teachers.
The script for ‘Alice in Shebbearland’ was written by English teacher and head of drama Julian Pomroy and featured a cast of sixth form students and staff.
In a twist on the famous story, the plot followed sixth-former Alice as she panicked about handing in an essay assignment.
Following a bump on the head, Alice finds herself in Shebbearland but still under pressure to hand in her assignment on time to the Queen of Hearts or face losing her head.
Assisted by all the usual characters, including a caterpillar, Cheshire cat, Mad Hatter, doormouse, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and of course a white rabbit to name just a few, the fairytale ends just as it should — happily ever after.
The hilarious production was well-received by packed audiences at three performances at the school near Beaworthy in?December, with a matinee performance for prep school pupils and two evening performances for parents and other guests.
‘Well done to all who took part both on stage and behind the scenes,’ said school spokesman Mark Charman. ‘The costumes were amazing and clearly a lot of work went into this production.’
