FOLLOWING an item in the Times, I obtained an entry form for the Tamar Valley Tourism Association?s photographic competition themed ?Buildings and Structures in the Tamar Valley?. Having two questions about the competition, I contacted one of two of the organisers mentioned on the form by email. My message was read, but after two weeks I had received no reply. I contacted the second name. This time my query was acknowledged, but at the time of writing (June 17), more than two months after my original enquiry, I have still not received an answer. Secondly, with the issue or the press release ?Heritage Lottery Cheer for £5.8m in Tamar Valley Project?, I raised a question with the West Devon Borough Council media officer, as invited to do in its text. One month later I have again received no reply. If my experiences are anything to go by, the Tamar Valley really must sharpen up its act to have any hope of raising its profile as a serious industrial heritage attraction (and hence money earner). The existing sites that are already up and running in the West Cornwall mining area will take some catching. Steve Roberts Whitchurch Road Horrabridge
