I WAS very surprised to read in your front page story (September 18) that only three of the many multinational stores in Tavistock actually contribute financially to the Christmas lights and the Dickensian evening. Shame on them!
Not one of these shops remains closed on Dickensian evening, no doubt taking in quite a good profit, leaving the smaller businesses, in effect, to pick up the tab!
Is there any way these businesses could be prevented from opening if they do not wish to contribute towards the cost of arranging such a wonderful event?
