Cullompton Colts 0

Tavistock Colts 12

TAVISTOCK recorded the seventh win in their last eight outings on Saturday but not before Cullompton had forced every last effort from the team.

Tavistock started brightly, running the ball at every opportunity and causing problems through fly half Lawrence Evans and centres Richard Morris and James Radford.

The first score came from a kick ahead by Richard Lloyd which was quickly recycled and spun along the backs to the left wing where full back Rob Williams made the extra man and rounded the Cullompton defence to score in the corner.

However, the remainder of the half belonged to the Cullompton pack and only desperate defence kept them from crossing the Tavistock line. All the team defended well, but special mention should go to forwards Matt Martin, Adam Gradidge and John Pain who continually did the hard work in the loose.

The second half saw Tavistock re-assert themselves and they started to get good ball from the lineout supplied via Iain Johnston and the scrum, where front rowers Will Gabb, Pete Welsh and Darren Sutton sorted out a few problems.

From this possession scrum half Josh Sutton kept Cullompton pinned in their own half with some shrewd tactical kicking.

Richard Lloyd was supported by back row colleagues Matt Smith and Richard Huish, but the Cullompton defence held firm until late in the game when Huish picked up from a five-metre scrum and powered his way over the line to score. Sutton added the conversion.

The colts are at home to Bideford on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
