FROM early results this season it is clear that Okehampton Argyle are determined to regain their premier division status as quickly as possible following the ignominy of relegation at the end of last season. The opening three league games have all been won, and how. First came a 7-2 victory at Halwill Junction, followed by a 6-1 win over Wellington at Simmons Park, before another seven goals were scored on their travels, this time at Exeter Civil Service without any reply from the home side. The pleasing thing about all this is that the goals are coming from all areas of the park, and not just from one or two individuals. It is as though the whole team have been stung by last season?s relegation. To date they appear to have shaken off the air of complacency that seemed to have set in, and the misguided belief that they were too good to go down. The whole team are performing well but Graham Soby has been outstanding at the heart of the defence. So has Adam Mortimore, who has returned to the club following a year playing for Clyst Rovers in the Western league. His presence up front is causing problems for opposing teams? defences. In the one cup match played in September, Okehampton travelled to play Exeter St Thomas and despite a determined display by the home team, came away with a 2-1 win. With the second and third teams both getting off to a solid start the season looks very promising. l The club are looking for a match day reporter. Anyone interested should contact Jim Burdus either at the ground on first team match days or by telephone on 01837 53789.
