A CONTEMPORARY art display by a former Tavistock College pupil saw a sailing boat moored up in Plymouth City Centre recently.

The boat belonged to Ben Langworthy, now a contemporary artist, and was part of a piece of work entitled 'I Took it With Me', during which Ben hauled the 10ft sailing dinghy from Sutton Harbour to Plymouth College of Art over three nights.

Ben said: 'The work explores ideas of place and memory as well as re-imagining the adventures of Shackleton and Nordic rituals of dragging boats across land to reach another sea.

'I'm pleased by the impact the project has had on people. There were a lot of confused faces but a lot of smiles as well. I think the image really struck a chord.

'The boat itself and the film of the adventure will be on display at The Sutton Youth Initiative show at Plymouth College of Art in November.'

The Sutton Youth Initiative opens on November 1 and runs until November 27.

The Gallery is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to noon on Saturdays.
