TAVISTOCK Parish Church will be remembering the departed this weekend with three special services. There is a service at lunch-time and two in the evening. One is a service of readings and music with an opportunity to light candles in memory of loved ones, while two of the services are communion services. The lunch-time communion service is at 12.30pm on Friday, November 2, and there is a sung communion service at 7.30pm on the same day. The service of readings, music and the lighting of candles is at 6pm on Sunday, November 4. Both the evening services will be followed by tea and cake. Everyone is invited. Those who would like names read out should mention them to a minister before the service begins. The Rev Michael Brierley, priest-in-charge of Tavistock and Gulworthy, said: ?All of us have been bereaved at some stage in our lives, but quite often bereavement is swept under the carpet. ?It?s about the only time in the Christian year that we wear black. It?s a sign that while there?s light and hope at the end of the tunnel, we don?t try and minimise or explain away the pain of bereavement. ?It?s only by acknowledging the awfulness of it that we gain the strength to move on.?
