FOLLOWING the recent success of members of Hatherleigh Training Band, it was the turn of the Senior Band to excel at a South West contest. Travelling to Bugle in Cornwall, the band gave an excellent performance of Edward Gregson?s Partita to win their section by a three-point margin. The event also marked a huge personal achievement for principal cornet player Greg Morgan, who won the Jack Hooper Memorial Trophy as the best player in the section, for the second consecutive year. August is a busy month for the Silver Band. They will be playing at a coffee evening in Hatherleigh Square on Thursday, August 17, and this evening they will be playing a concert on Moorview Green in the town. The musicians then have two away trips: to the Ilfracombe Bandstand on Sunday, August 20 and Moretonhampstead Carnival on Thursday, August 24. On Saturday, September 2, the band are back on home turf, playing at a cider and pasty evening in Hatherleigh Square from 7pm.
