Devon Cup semi final

Kelly College 12

Torquay Boys Grammar 5

THE Devon Cup semi final was a superb day for Kelly College. The Kelly team was well prepared and they were focused on the task in hand.

With it being the first home game of the season, a large crowd turned out on a wet and windy afternoon.

The game started quickly, with Kelly defending their line but they dealt with the pressure well, turning defence into attack.

Kelly spent the rest of the first half camped inside Torquay's 22, but were unable to turn the pressure into points to make it 0-0 at half time.

Kelly College knew they had to take advantage of having a dominant pack and the majority of possession.

This finally showed with Mike Parlby scoring from a drive over try, which Jamie Briant converted.

Torquay scored a breakaway try, a player running the length of the field, which made for an exciting finish to the game.

Kelly did however keep plugging away in the forwards, with Ben Abbot scoring in the final five minutes to secure the win.

This was a fine display of rugby from the whole team and one which captain Tom Rickard should be proud of.
