MEBYON Kernow (MK), 'the party for Cornwall', has selected Cllr Andrew Long to contest the South East Cornwall seat at the next General Election.

Cllr Long is an experienced councillor, who represents Callington on the unitary authority. He also represented the town on Caradon District Council between 2007 and 2009, and he has been a town councillor since 1999.

Cllr Long said he was looking forward to the challenge of standing to be South East Cornwall's MP. He said: 'Cornwall needs MPs who stand up and fight for Cornwall, and who will always put the interests of our local communities ahead of party political games in London.'

Party leader Cllr Dick Cole welcomed Cllr Long's selection as the prospective parlia-mentary candidate for the South East Cornwall constituency.

He said: 'Andrew Long has been a fantastic champion for South East Cornwall for many years. He would make a great MP and I sincerely hope that local people will throw their weight behind his campaign.'
