THE builder who is constructing a new roof at Whiterocks House, St Ann's Chapel, found carved in a roof beam the following: 'James Harry Barrett, Ward Farm, Bere Alston, South Devon. Beloved son of his mother, gone but not forgotten. 19 years.'
The house was built in 1937 and I think this young man was an apprentice builder. If anyone can tell me what happened to him I would be very interested.
