WEST Devon?s new police neighbourhood team leader last week pledged to make sure the borough?s beat managers were even more visible and successful in their role.
Sgt Richard Nettleship, who is based at Okehampton, introduced himself to members at last week?s meeting of Tavistock Town Council.
He told the council there were 15 neighbourhood beat managers patrolling villages in the borough, but until two weeks ago, a gap in staffing meant they had no direct team leader.
Sgt Nettleship said: ?I am a resident of West Devon myself. My main job will be to try and improve and make the way the team work a bit smarter ? make sure they are visible and successful.?
Although Sgt Nettleship is based at Okehampton, he will be dividing his time and spending a good proportion of his time at Tavistock Police Station.
Town mayor Cllr Jenny Metcalf thanked Sgt Nettleship and said his new role sounded ?fascinating?.
