VISITORS to Dartmoor can experience a sheep 'maternity ward' in action next week and see live lambing.

Although for the farming community the lambing season is an annual period of sleepless nights and hard work to ensure the ewes are supported through their labour, it is rare for members of the public to be present at a lamb's birth. With support from the Dartmoor Sustainable Development Fund and the Dartmoor Hill Farm Project, Greenwell Farm near Meavy is providing an opportunity for the public to witness the births as it hosts a 'Lambing Live' week from Monday March 19 to Friday March 23.

The lambing shed at Greenwell Farm is open during Lambing Live Week from 6pm to 8pm.

This is the second year that Greenwell Farm has run Lambing Live and due to its popularity those wishing to attend should book in advance. The cost per adult is £4 and children £1. Children under 5 can enter for free. Educational groups, schools and clubs are welcome by arrangement.
