Okehampton Argyle 2nds 5

University(Exeter) 0

THE midweek visit of University saw a reshuffled Okehampton turn in a confident performance. The young visitors were out-tackled from the whistle and this put Argye in the driving seat.

Jason Sandford opened the scoring with a one-on-one with the visiting central defender and a clean strike past the keeper. Lloyd Chapman soon made it 2-0 firing home low after some fine battling from midfield.

Okehampton continually out-passed their opposition and forced many corners. Ian Wilson increased the lead with an accurate header from a Jerome Whatley corner.

The students had no answer to Okehampton's aerial power and Graham Soby powered home a Daniel Johnston corner with the visiting defence looking static.

Sandford looked sharp all evening and his classy lay-off enabled Mark Burdus to drill home low to complete the rout.

OKEHAMPTON completed the double over high-placed Tipton by the same score as their home meeting. Tipton played an aggressive game and the referee had to blow many times which never allowed the match to flow. Early exchanges favoured the visitors but it was Tipton who took the lead with indecision from Mike Vernon in goal and Paul Adams, the latter catching the forward clumsily and the striker hammering home from the penalty spot.

A positive start after the break saw Okehampton looking more dominant. An Adams quick free kick found Jerome Whatley and his cross found Adam Mortimer who drove in a low cross for Jason Sandford to tuck away.

Okehampton quickly went 2-1 up when Jamie Back's defence-splitting pass found Mortimer who beat the home keeper with ease.

Tipton were looking ragged at the back and their defence stopped for an offside shout with the referee waving play on. Mortimer took on the home keeper with ease to give Okehampton a 3-1 lead.

Okehampton continued to push. Mark Burdus picked out Whatley with an exquisite pass for the final goal.

This Saturday away to Culm, 3pm kick-off.
