Leisure Harbour Senior Cup Tavistock 2nds 1 Friary Vaults 4 THE visitors started the game looking confident and comfortable on the ball, putting Tavistock under immediate pressure and having several early attempts on goal. When Chris Falkener pounced on a through ball and blasted it past Friary?s keeper after five minutes it looked as though Tavistock had given themselves a cushion and some breathing space. Unfortunately, Friary?s response was swift, the Tavistock defence made a dog?s dinner of trying to clear a loose ball in the area and Friary leapt at the opportunity to equalise. Unable to regain their composure, Tavistock went 2-1 down only minutes later with the defence caught napping and beaten for speed. Tavistock could find no response to Friary?s superior play and went in at half-time 3-1 down, succumbing to a long ball down the centre that again left the defence flat-footed. Although an uphill struggle it was not beyond the bounds of possibility that Tavistock could pull two goals back in the second half and take it to extra time. But the failure to supply the front runners with anything like a decent ball from a midfield that lacked cohesion saw that possibility drain away rapidly. Thirty minutes into the half the visitors got their fourth goal, putting the game well beyond Tavistock?s reach. Beating the offside trap and leaving the defence standing it was one-on-one for the Friary striker, with the odds against the keeper. Although Friary trailed away in the last ten minutes, Tavistock failed to capitalise, despite some late pressure.
