Tavistock 2nd XV 45

Teignmouth 2nd XV 3

ON yet another baking hot Saturday afternoon Tavistock banished the demons from a heavy defeat last week, at the hands of Tiverton, to record their first win at Sandy Park of the season.

Tavistock opened the scoring on ten minutes, following a rolling maul the ball was quickly dispatched to the back line for Mark Innis to go over in style.

A further three tries followed before the break, two from second row James McDowell - both ranging solo efforts from the halfway line - and Richard Staniland, who barrelled over following a break by Dave Welsh.

The Tavistock pack never looked like losing dominance in the scrums and lineouts, but had some determined and crunching tackles from the backs, particularly John Mullins thwarted the menace of Teignmouth. On 55 minutes the home side's dominance finally told, with a try starting from a solid Tavistock ruck and finished by Craig Pascoe in the corner.

Two tries were added by Staniland to cap a fine individual performance - which included five out of a possible seven conversions - both following marauding breaks by the forwards and sweeping moves by the backs.

Teignmouth"s only reply was a speculative drop goal which dissected Tavistock's last two scores.
