Tavistock seconds 29
Totnes seconds 5
JOSH Evans secured the ball from the kick off and Tavistock went straight onto the attack. After several good phases from the forwards, centre Tom Whaley scored a fine try.
Totnes spent much of the next 15 minutes pressing the Tavistock try-line, but solid defence from the home side kept them out.
Tavistock regained the initiative and after the forwards had won good ball on halfway, the ball went through the hands, for left wing Ben Neale to beat the covering defence in a 40 metre dash to score an excellent try. Martin Credicott converted.
Next up, scrumhalf Lee Greatrix, was on hand to apply the finishing touch after a solid drive from the forwards. Credicott again converted.
The visitors then scored their only points when they went over for an unconverted try.
Tom Whaley finished off another fine move for Tavistock from the backs with his second try just before the half-time whistle, to bring the score to 24-5 at the interval.
Much of the second half was spent with Totnes on the attack, but the Tavistock defence held firm, with centres Jon Bellamy and Whaley making important tackles. The only score of the half was by Tavistock; from a heel against the head by hooker Dale Thompson, a pick up and run from number eight Darrin Cole, who found Greatrix in support to take the scoring pass and take the final score to 29-5.
With flankers Josh Evans and Dave Rawles and lock Lee Easton all prominent, this was another good performance from the seconds, against a very useful Totnes side.
n This week sees Tavistock seconds play the return game at Totnes, kick-off 3pm.
