THE young Oke team put on a gallant and spirited performance against an experienced top of the league Mannamead team.
Mannamead attacked with all guns blazing forcing Oke captain Sophie Whiteley to lead her team by example. Whiteley tackled tirelessly thwarting the Mannamead attack.
Unfortunately the Oke defence were outnumbered by the Mannamead forwards leaving an unmarked player free to slot the ball into the back of the Oke net to score.
Oke threw themselves straight back into the game with forwards Eve Colton and Grace Thorp forcing the Mannamead player to defend but despite continued pressure Oke could not get the ball into the net.
Just before half time a Mannamead player made a surging run deep into the Oke half, drew her defender before putting a perfectly placed pass to another Mannamead attacker waiting on the goal post to tap the ball in.
In the second half Oke player of the match Tara Davidson moved onto the forward line and made penetrating attacking runs down the right wing and was unlucky not to score.
Oke had the majority of possession and in the dying minutes of the match were awarded several penalty corners but Mannamead defended resolutely.
