Tavistock 0

University of Plymouth 2

THE Lambs had an unfamiliar look to them as managers Craig Smith and Chris Abbott made sweeping changes, some enforced and others due to lack of form.

In came Andy Meeds, John Gosling, James Cole, Craig Hodge and Peter Tiffney from the Jewson side with Jeff Babb (Clyst Rovers), Lee Beer (Liskeard) and Andy Bowker (Porthleven) in the line-up.

The pattern of the game became apparent in the 10th minute. The referee played advantage to allow Stewart to go beyond the Lambs' defence and slot the ball past Meeds for the opener.

Steve Nicholson's return from a lengthy injury spell sadly only lasted half an hour and he had to be replaced by Steve Bray.

The Lambs could not penetrate a University defence until right on half-time when they were awarded a penalty. But Bowker's spot kick went wide of the angle of upright and crossbar.

The first part of the second half was all Tavistock as they searched for the equaliser, Adrian Payne failed to get to a Babb cross, Beer struck wide and Cole's header hit the keeper on the body.

University made sure of the game with 15 minutes to go as another quick break down the right put Escabar in the clear to shoot across Meeds.

P&D Premier Cup quarter-final

Tavistock 3

Mount Gould BP 2

THE Lambs were back to a more familiar look for this cup tie with everyone returning after the midweek league defeat.

The game was just eight minutes old when the home side took the lead. Player manager Chris Abbott got to the by-line to send in a low cross that was deflected to Hawkins on the edge of the area to blast it past the keeper.

Abbott's persistence almost got Tavistock's second. He closed a defender down who hastily passed across his area. Paul DaRocha robbed a defender to go clear but his shot flew wide.

Mount Gould were fortunate to draw level. It seemed a harsh decision when the referee pointed to the penalty spot on the half-hour after a goalmouth scramble. Ex-Lambs player Gary Martin took the spot kick and Tony Rawlings made an excellent save only for the referee have him take it again. Hawkins was booked for encroachment and this time Martin sent the ball into the opposite corner to give Rawlings no chance.

Mount Gould had a good chance after ten minutes of the second half when Craig Sullivan burst through into the area but Rawlings made the save of the match.

Martin then got himself into trouble with a rash challenge and was sent of. Down to ten men it did not unduly affect the visitors. Rawlings' kick out from a back pass was mis-hit and it went straight to an opponent, leading to another goal.

The Lambs searched for the equaliser and it came with just eight minutes remaining. Abbott found Hawkins on the edge of the area, who turned quickly to send the ball into the net off an upright.

With extra time looming the Lambs deservedly went into the lead when DaRocha volleyed home from 12 yards.
