ENJOY a traditional Christmas at Buckland Abbey this year. People are invited to Buckland Abbey to see it decorated for Christmas in many natural materials. One of the National Trust highlights is creating ivy swags and plaques for the Great Hall all beautifully decorated with red ribbons, fruits and nuts. On the Georgian staircase hangs an eight metre festive rope and the windows are made to look like stained glass by using slices of dried coloured oranges. These decorations will be on display in the Abbey on Fridays and weekends until Sunday, December 18. With reduced admission charges to the abbey adults pay £3.20 and children pay £1.60, and entrance will be free for National Trust members. Admission to the grounds and estate walks are free during the winter period and they will be open from 11am with the last time being 4.15pm. On Sunday, December 11 Dartmoor Border Morris will be performing a traditional mummers play in the Great Barn at 2pm and 3.30pm. The National Trust Christmas shop and restaurant will be open from 11am-5pm, and at the shop on December 11 and 18 there will be a visit from Father Christmas.
