TAVISTOCK won the toss and looked to take advantage of the damp overcast conditions. After a tight opening spell from James McGahey in particular, Chagford were reduced to 42-2 thanks to two run outs.
However, they re-grouped thanks to a partnership of 60 between Jeremy Christophers and talented youngster Billy Searle. Christophers eventually departed for 37 when he was bowled by Sean Cleave whose 13 overs yielded 4-51.
Despite losing Christophers, Chagford continued to press on as Del Lammonby (27) and Searle upped the tempo. The introduction of Andy Gauler (4-35) had the desired effect for Tavistock, as Searle was dismissed for 51 and Chagford slipped from 154-3 to 159-6 in the space of three overs. The tail kept the scoreboard ticking before Chagford were dismissed for 192.
Tavistocks' reply was soon in trouble as Searle turned bowler. Josh Stephens was removed for four followed next ball by Will Simpson, Shaun Daymond survived the hat-trick ball and he and Rhys Davies (19) moved the score on to 30 before Davies was dismissed by Lammonby. Daymond followed in the next over to leave Tavistock reeling at 30-4.
Captain Dave Manning was joined by Cleave. The partnership of 59 was ended when Cleave was stumped off Christophers (2-28), Manning soon followed for 24 and it then became a game of survival for Tavistock.
However, Searle returned and accounted for Rob Milligan and Dave Downham to take his haul to 5-20 and leave the home side at 116-8. McGahey (18) gave Tavistock hope but he was bowled by Lammonby (3-48) with just seven balls remaining giving Chagford victory by 55 runs.
