The holiday is part of the youth exchange programme run between Tavistock and its twin town of Celle in Germany.
The programme has been running successfully since 1953, but this year organisers have run into difficulties.
Douglas Blakely, chairman of Tavistock Youth Exchange, said: ?In 2003 we are hoping to celebrate our golden jubilee, but we have run into a problem. We desperately need more young people, aged 13 to 17, to take part.
?In Celle there are many young people ready, willing and able to take part but so far, the take up from Tavistock is not enough to make this year?s exchange viable.?
Mr Blakely said the exchange programme was run in two phases. At Easter, over a two week period, an English group visit Germany and stay with host families.
The return visit takes place during the last two weeks in July, when the German partners come to Tavistock.
?The format of the exchange, both in Tavistock and in Celle, is a series of group excursions and activities, interspersed with days when the host families are able to organise their own entertainment. In this way, the participants may enjoy the security of the group and the excitement of being with a different family in a new environment,? said Mr Blakely.
He said students do not have to speak German to be able to go on the exchange, which costs just £215 to cover all transport costs and group activities in Celle and in Tavistock.
He said: ?This unique opportunity is available to anyone living in the Tavistock College catchment area, but is not exclusively for students of Tavistock College ? students from other schools are welcome.?
