THE Tidy Tavi group had a welcome boost of volunteers at its recent litter pick, thanks to parents and members of the 1st Tavistock Scout Group Cub section.
The whole of Tavistock town centre was visited by litter picking teams as well as the A386 from Anderton Lane to Mount Kelly. The Meadows were given a particularly thorough clean-up by the cubs and their parents.
A large haul of rubbish was collected, not just reflecting the magnificent turn out of volunteers, but also the dreadful state of some parts of the town. Particularly bad areas were the laybys on the A386 beyond Anderton Lane, the bus station, parts of Pixon Lane and the area around the Morrisons roundabout, where large amounts of detritus from the supermarket car park and petrol station had been blown into the main road.
A spokesperson for Tidy Tavi said:?'Several instances of bagged, but casually discarded dog faeces were encountered, as well as large scale fly tipping in hedges and laybys. Tidy Tavi volunteers are not expected or equipped to deal with these problems safely, so such instances are always reported to the local authority for action.'
In an effort to help keep the increasing litter problem in check and to enable potential volunteers, who are busy on Saturdays, to lend a hand, a midweek litter picking session has been organised for Wednesday, March 25.
If you would like to help, meet at Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 3pm.
Teams will be organised to visit as much of the town as possible in two hours, returning at 5pm. Tidy Tavi will provide litter pickers, rubbish bags and high visibility tabards. All you need are a good pair of gloves, some stout footwear and an intrepid spirit.
