TWO West Devon groups are among 89 organisations across the South West to be granted funding through the Lottery's Awards for All scheme.

West Devon District Scouts was awarded £9,978 which will buy kayaks for adult training, and the West Dartmoor University of the Third Age, based in Tavistock, has received £578 to replace an antiquated sound system.

West Devon Scouts assistant district commissioner for activities Rob Wiggins said he was 'absolutely delighted and over the moon' about the award.

'The money will buy four kayaks, one sailing dinghy and a safety boat complete with a road trailer and outdoor motor,' he said.

'Once the adults are trained they can take the children out on these activities.

'It means we can expand our water activities for all the 500+ children we have in the district.'

In the latest round of awards, some £652,317 is being distributed to local groups.
