A 14-year-old Scout from North Tawton is appealing to local businesses to support an exciting expedition project to Botswana.
In the summer of 2014, Okehampton College student Haydon Perrior and 30 others will journey to Botswana for a three-week Scout community expedition.
The aim is to develop a partnership which promotes understanding and friendships between Botswana and Devon Scouts that will benefit both groups in the future.
While in Botswana, the British team will erect a building for use as a learning centre by the Botswana Scouting community at the Boro Scout Park near Maun.
The structure will be built out of concrete blocks with an A-frame roof, and used by the Botswana Scouts to educate others.
The expedition requires each individual to raise at least £3,000 to fund travel, living expenses, and materials required for the building.
As part of his fundraising efforts, Haydon is appealing to all local businesses for any contributions, big or small, toward the project.
Haydon said: 'I see this expedition as a great way of helping other people less fortunate than myself, learning new skills, experiencing new cultures and interacting with new people.
'I believe this opportunity will change me as a person and my perception of the world.
'I believe this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and will change my approach to life.'
If you would like to support Haydon's efforts or to find out more, write to Haydon Perrior, Essington House, North Tawton, Devon, EX20 2EX, or e-mail him at h.perrior@hotmail.
