TEN teams from nine local schools contested the third annual Tavistock Area Small Schools? Tag Rugby Tournament, which took place at Milton Abbot School on Friday week. The standard of rugby was some of the best ever played at this event, with three of the ten teams being level on points at the end of the pool stages. The hosts won through to the final for the second year running, losing out to the team of the tournament, Meavy, who produced an excellent display to close out the match 9-5. Matches were refereed by students Wayne Downham and Joe Smith, both players with Tavistock RFC First XV. Competing teams: Meavy (winners), Milton Abbot (runners-up), Princetown, Lifton, Mary Tavy and Brentor, Lady Modiford?s, Milton Abbot B, Horrabridge, Lamerton, Gulworthy. Six of the larger primary schools also competed in a tag rugby festival. Tavistock were the winners and St Andrew?s narrowly beat Whitchurch into second place by virtue of the total number of tries scored.
