TEAMS from Tavistock College, Kelly College and Horrabridge and Lamerton primary schools took part in the annual Youth Speaks public speaking competition recently, organised by the Rotary Club of Tavistock.
The junior competition was won by a team from Lamerton, whose subject 'Would you be a teacher was presented by Gorgia Stolliday and supported by Tiggy Paton and Arianne Todd. Oliver Noy-Scott supported by Dan Paton and William Tucker were second, speaking on 'Is the earth running out of resources?'.
Third were the Horrabridge team of Jack Emony, Jacob Woodbridge and Leilla May — they were congratulated in their efforts as it was the first time that Horrabridge had entered the competition.
The intermediate section was won by Tavistock College, with Marianne Quinn, Millie Kelly, Darcey Hepworth, Molly Balding and Emma Sampson talking on 'Superheroes — the real villains?' and 'Women in Sport'.
Tavistock College also won the senior section of the competition, with 'Do we need a back up planet?' presented by Flo Rodgers and supported by Joe Way and Jed Coiley.
The evening was well supported by contestants, parents, teachers and members of the rotary club.
Club president Clive Fairchild congratulated those who took part, and their teachers, and Kelly College for staging the event.
The winning teams will compete in the next round of the competition, which takes place at Callington College on Wednesday, February 22.
