WHITCHURCH Community Primary School was celebrating this week after being presented with a prestigious national award.
The Sports England Activemark Gold was presented to the school in recognition of its outstanding commitment to promoting the benefits of physical activity and school sport.
Imogen Syrett, PE co-ordinator for the school, said: ?We are delighted to receive this award.
?It recognises the hard work of all the staff and parents who help organise a variety of clubs and activities to promote sport at school.?
The award was presented to the school by Peter Gilbert and Hasney Aljofree from Plymouth Argyle, who were delighted to be involved.
Peter said: ?I remember as a child being encouraged to play sport and that support is what got me where I am today.
?It?s important that children stay active, and that they have the opportunity to find a sport they enjoy and will stick at ? the activemark gold is a great incentive to achieve that.
?The teachers, staff and parents at Whitchurch have all worked so hard to achieve this award ? they thoroughly deserve it.?
The pupils were delighted to meet the two footballers who stayed after the presentation to pass on some new skills to the Year 5s.
Peter and Hasney did not go home empty handed either ? the children presented them with a piece of sporty artwork as a thank you for their new-found football skills!
