DURING the summer holidays a West Devon school had brand new playing equipment installed in the playgrounds to greet the children when they returned for the autumn term.

Horrabridge County Primary School had a substantial amount of outdoor equipment placed into both the key stage one and key stage two playground areas.

A large part of this forms a 'trim trail' that promotes co-ordination, balance and develops lower and upper body strength.

The equipment was selected by the pupils working through the school council and has been incredibly popular since its installation.

Head teacher John Clarke said: 'The new equipment has been very enthusiastically received. In fact, we've been having trouble getting the children off it!'

The project forms part of the school's work towards the Healthy Schools Award, promoting activity levels at break and lunchtimes, and compliments the schools work in providing a range of active lunchtime and after school clubs, such as hockey, football, tag rugby, cross country, netball, gardening and table tennis.
