AN EAST Cornwall primary school is celebrating after having its special measures lifted by Ofsted inspectors. Ofsted's report on St Dominick Church of England Primary School said the 50-pupil school had been transformed since the last inspection in 2005. Inspectors praised the quality of leadership and management, the behaviour of pupils and their positive attitudes, the overall quality of teaching and learning and the school's caring, family atmosphere. They concluded that the school was now providing a good quality education for its pupils. Headteacher Jayne Biddle said: 'St Dominick is, once again, a school everyone can feel proud to be a part of. There are many people who have helped contribute to this success; the teachers and support staff have worked incredibly hard, the governors, led by Jo Totterdell, and parents have been really supportive and the children have been great, adapting admirably to the various changes introduced. 'We are also grateful to the local authority and the diocesan board for their invaluable advice, financial support and encouragement and to all previous staff who have helped us along the road to recovery.' The report praises the school's revised curriculum which, it says, effectively meets the needs of all learners, the overall quality of teaching and learning, and the achievement and standards attained by pupils. Pupils were motivated by the lessons and were beginning to take a much greater part in assessing their own success. They were making good progress in lessons and the standards which they reached were improving. It also commended the provision for pupils' personal development, the wide range of extra curricular activities, and the good provision for pupils with special educational needs. The organisation and administration of the school was also praised and its links with the community. The inspectors also identified areas of action for governors and staff to raise standards further, including ensuring lessons were planned for pupils capable of reaching higher levels and better self evaluation. Chair of governors Jo Totterdell said: 'The governors have always had great faith in the ability of both staff and pupils to improve our school after the setbacks leading to the Ofsted in May 2005. 'We would like to especially thank our former acting head, Fran Cooper, and our new headteacher who have worked so hard to bring us out of special measures. 'Particular mention should be made of all the parents, who have shown commitment and support to the school throughout the past eighteen months.
