A UNIQUE exhibition of photographs goes on display in Princetown tomorrow (Friday), providing a fascinating record of life on Dartmoor during the last century.
The exhibition, organised by the Dartmoor Trust, comprises photographs taken towards the end of the 19th century by Robert Burnard, the late Lady Sylvia Sayer's grandfather.
To provide a contemporary comparison, next to each photo will be a modern-day image taken over 100 years later by the Trust.
The two pictures show how much or how little the landscape, archaeology and buildings of the moor have changed.
The exhibition marks the launch of a major fund-raising campaign to establish a Dartmoor archive, bringing together a wide variety of moorland information and images which will be available on the internet.
A book supporting the exhibition entitled Dartmoor Century has been published, with a foreword by the Prince of Wales.
The book contains all the photographs on display at the exhibition, including some by other Dartmoor photographers.
l A review of Dartmoor Century will appear in the Times shortly.
